KiwiStar Optics, an Electro Optic Systems (EOS) company, has appointed Julia Rothman as its new General Manager.
Rothman brings more than two decades of international experience across space systems, defence capability development and advanced technology programs, having worked across the United States, New Zealand and global commercial space sectors.
“I’m excited to be joining KiwiStar Optics at such an important time for both the company and New Zealand’s growing space and defence technology sector,” Ms Rothman said.
“KiwiStar has a strong reputation for innovation and technical excellence, and I look forward to working with the team to continue developing sovereign capability, supporting customers and advancing technologies that deliver meaningful impact for New Zealand and our international partners.”
Rothman has held senior technical and leadership roles across the United States Air Force, Missile Defence Agency, New Zealand Defence Force and Rocket Lab, where she most recently served as Director of Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand. Her career has included leading satellite programs, missile defence testing, space tracking capability development and operational launch infrastructure.
She has also played a key role in advancing collaboration between US, Australian and New Zealand space and defence interests, receiving both the Space and Missile Systems Center Civilian of the Year Award and Missile Defence Agency Civilian of the Year Award for her contributions.
Executive Vice President at EOS Space Systems, Dr James Bennett, said Rothman’s appointment reflected KiwiStar’s continued focus on innovation, sovereign capability and international growth.
“Julia’s depth of experience across defence, space systems and advanced technology development makes her exceptionally well placed to lead KiwiStar Optics through its next phase of growth,” Bennett said.
“Her proven track record in delivering complex programs, building high-performing teams and driving innovation across both government and commercial sectors will be a major asset as KiwiStar continues to strengthen its capabilities and expand its role within the global space and defence industry.”
